- CHINA BUILDS FASTEST SUPERCOMPUTER
China unveiled the Tianhe-2 super computer which is the fastest supercomputer in the world as of now. This super computer was unveiled by China’s National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) and they have given it a nick name also – Milkyway -2.
University of Tennessee professor Jack Dongarra confirmed this week that the Milkyway-2 operates at 30.7 petaflops. The U.S. Department of Energy’s fastest supercomputer Titan was clocking at only 17.6 petaflops. When compared to this, Tianhe -2 is very much faster.
Since this new super computer will be able to process calculations at a very high speed, the NUDT has listed out several possible uses of the Tianhe -2 such as simulations for testing airplanes, processing “big data,” and aiding in government security.
